Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is the treatment of emotional or behavioral problems by
psychological means. This can be done in one-to-one sessions or small groups. Modern psychoanalysis concentrates a great deal on the patient's beliefs.
Exploration of these beliefs, where they come
from, why they are still held, using advanced interpersonal skills which emphasise processes of facilitation, brings the client to an understanding of his/her belief and how it is effecting their welbeing.
This
puts the client in a postion to decide whether their long held beliefs have any validity in their present life and whether or not to continue holding these beliefs.
Such processes are based on an ethos of
respect for clients, their values, their beliefs, their uniqueness and the right to self-determination.
