The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki, meaning Universal Life Force Energy. The term 'Reiki' is used to describe both the energy and the Usui system of using it.

Reiki involves the transference of energy from the therapist to the client to highten the body's natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy.

The therapist uses a particular pattern in the way they channel the energy to order to heal and harmonise. In the process of Reiki the healer places his/her hands above the client, the clients draws the energy as needed.

When I first encountered the word ‘reiki’ some ten years ago, I have to admit it didn’t appeal. The name didn’t sing or call to me; I was looking for a therapy to study, as my career in Nurseries and Pre-Schools had sadly run its course due to ill health. In all honesty, I didn’t know anything about reiki, or look into it at that time; it was obviously not the right time for me.
