Find a Therapist:

Alexander Technique is a method of mind/body integration, leading to ease of movement and awareness. The Alexander Technique is usually taught in individual lessons, during which the pupil/client becomes aware of patterns of contraction in everyday activities such as walking, sitting, standing, bending and lifting. With the help of the Alexander teacher's verbal guidance and light informative touch, the student discovers excess tension and movement patterns and other inhibiting habits that are resulting in pain, and then learns to release them. Often the Alexander Technique is taught as rehabilitation centers and pain clinics.

The Alexander Technique improves the way we use ourselves in everyday activity. Unconsciously acquired habits in movements such as standing, walking or sitting distort the body and interfere with its natural functioning. We react to each stimulus to do something by overtensing or collapsing - literally winding ourselves up (or down!). This 'mis-use' results in aches, pains, tension, fatigue or simply in feeling ill-at-ease in one's body. The Technique helps us to prevent these unnecessary reaction/habit patterns and to restore our natural 'good use' of ourselves...

Here and Now

In his final novel, Island, Aldous Huxley wrote about the adventures of a shipwrecked Englishman on Pala, an imaginary island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.

One of the many unusual features of Pala are specially trained birds - mynah birds - whose sole function is to loudly screech out 'Here and now! Here and now!' at random intervals...

I have enough money now to live very comfortably for the rest of my life.....Only problem is I have to be dead by tomorrow.
